Tokyo’s Robots or the man in the Blue Jay’s Hat. What stood out more?
The last few days in Tokyo were great! IREX was full of life, but walking through the event, there was one thing that felt different. Every corner I passed, I felt as if I was in The Men in Black 4. Men were walking focused, wearing almost the same black suit, white shirt and tie! Where were all the businesswomen in the tech industry? I was hoping to see more women being empowered in tech roles! How could I explain this to my daughter?
Beyond that, I also saw some brilliant products from Seed Robotics, Kawada and SoftBank Robotics US! And then I spotted the man in the Blue Jays Hat. He was passing from the left, I from the right. Then he moved to the right, I to the left. It was as if we were doing synchronized swimming! Suddenly we looked at the same reception/guide robot. There we shook hands, took a photo, and became friends!
That man, Steve, was a fellow Canadian, a talented photographer and one of the most welcoming people I met in Japan. He spent 2 days showing me everything, from electronic shops to temples and markets.
So what stood out more? Of course, Steve. But now the question is, how can we further bring robots to help humanity? That’s why I am in this business.
